SUMMARY:Seed Collection at Beanblossom Bottoms Nature Preserve
DESCRIPTION:Support Sycamore Land Trust’s Native Plant Nursery by collecting native seeds from wetland wildflowers\, sedges\, shrubs\, and rushes at Beanblossom Bottoms Nature Preserve. These locally adapted seeds will support future habitat restoration projects across our preserves\, helping create diverse plant communities that provide food and shelter for birds\, pollinators\, amphibians\, and other wildlife. Participants will venture beyond the boardwalk and into shallow water for portions of the collection. No experience is necessary. All tools\, personal protective equipment\, species identification guidance\, and training will be provided. \nThis event is part of Indiana Land Trust Days. RSVP on the organizer’s website so that you don’t miss a thing – updates\, reminders\, or the occasional weather related cancellation or delay.

SUMMARY:Project Native Harvest: Shawnee Bottoms
DESCRIPTION:Help restore natural areas! \nAs NICHES staff and volunteers restore habitats and remove invasive plant species from our preserves\, we can help reduce reinvasion and rebuild biodiversity by collecting locally sourced native seeds for habitat restoration. \nFor this year’s effort\, we will be hosting seed collection workdays every Friday (1:00 pm -4:00 pm) between July 31st and October 23rd. \nPlease dress for the weather and wear sturdy footwear suitable for working outdoors. Since we’ll be venturing off trail to collect native seeds\, long pants and long sleeves are strongly recommended for protection from tall vegetation\, insects\, and poison ivy. We also recommend bringing sunscreen\, insect repellent\, work gloves\, snacks\, and plenty of water. \nNote: Seasonal timing and seed availability can be hard to predict. Some workday locations and target species may change as we get a better idea of what is available and where volunteer support is most needed. Participants will be notified by email of any location changes immediately! \nThis event is part of Indiana Land Trust Days. RSVP on the organizer’s website so that you don’t miss a thing – updates\, reminders\, or the occasional weather related cancellation or delay.

SUMMARY:Weed Wrangle at Amy Weingartner Branigin Peninsula Preserve
DESCRIPTION:Help protect our native plants at Amy Weingartner Branigin Peninsula Preserve during our next Weed Wrangle! We’ll hike the trail while pulling and bagging invasive perilla mint\, a rapidly spreading plant that can outcompete native vegetation and degrade wildlife habitat. Along the way\, you’ll learn how to identify this species\, why invasive plant management is critical to conservation\, and how volunteer stewardship helps keep this special Lake Monroe preserve healthy for native plants and animals! Come prepared to hike up to two miles! \nThis event is part of Indiana Land Trust Days. RSVP on the host organization’s website so that you don’t miss a thing – updates\, reminders\, or the occasional weather related cancellation or delay.
