SUMMARY:Fall Phenology Hike
DESCRIPTION:Join Shirley Heinze Land Trust for the third hike in our seasonal Phenology Hike series with a guided fall walk exploring the changing rhythms of the natural world as autumn settles in. As temperatures cool and the days grow shorter\, plants and animals prepare for the coming winter through migration\, seed dispersal\, dormancy\, and other remarkable seasonal adaptations. This fall hike offers a unique opportunity to observe how the landscape transforms during one of the most dynamic times of the year. \nParticipants will build on the concept of phenology—the study of nature’s seasonal rhythms—and discover how careful observation can deepen our connection with the more-than-human world. \nAs the third program in this four-part series that meets once each season\, this hike offers a chance to revisit the same landscape and witness its transformation throughout the year. Each hike can stand alone\, but together they create a richer understanding of the ever-changing cycles that shape the natural world. \n  \nWhat to Bring: Long pants and sturdy shoes are recommended. We encourage you to bring your own water bottle as there is no potable water at this location. \nWeather Policy: Rain or shine. Event will be cancelled in inclement weather with no rain date. \nThis event is part of Indiana Land Trust Days. RSVP on the host organization’s website so that you don’t miss a thing – updates\, reminders\, or the occasional weather related cancellation or delay.

SUMMARY:Hike the Trust: Porter West
DESCRIPTION:Join Sycamore Land Trust for our Hike the Trust hike at Porter West Preserve! As we hike the 2.5 mile upland loop\, we’ll see how this landscape continues to evolve: shaped by past storms\, shifting plant communities\, and the steady processes of forest succession. We’ll take time to botanize\, and keep our eyes and ears open for fall migrant birds moving through the preserve. Together\, we’ll look at how long-term protection and stewardship help ensure places like this continue to thrive. \nThis event is part of Indiana Land Trust Days. RSVP on the organizer’s website so that you don’t miss a thing – updates\, reminders\, or the occasional weather related cancellation or delay.
