DESCRIPTION:Help restore natural areas! \nAs NICHES staff and volunteers restore habitats and remove invasive plant species from our preserves\, we can help reduce reinvasion and rebuild biodiversity by collecting locally sourced native seeds for habitat restoration. \nFor this year’s effort\, we will be hosting seed collection workdays every Friday (1:00 pm -4:00 pm) between July 31st and October 23rd. \nPlease dress for the weather and wear sturdy footwear suitable for working outdoors. Since we’ll be venturing off trail to collect native seeds\, long pants and long sleeves are strongly recommended for protection from tall vegetation\, insects\, and poison ivy. We also recommend bringing sunscreen\, insect repellent\, work gloves\, snacks\, and plenty of water. \nNote: Seasonal timing and seed availability can be hard to predict. Some workday locations and target species may change as we get a better idea of what is available and where volunteer support is most needed. DESCRIPTION:Spiders thrive in nearly every habitat on Earth—including caves and karst landscapes. Join spider expert and IKC member Dr. Marc Milne for a hands-on exploration of Indiana’s spider diversity. Participants will learn how to search for\, collect\, and observe spiders from a range of habitats using tools such as a beating sheet\, litter reducer\, manual aspirator\, and a vacuum sampler. Dr. Milne will introduce us to the most common families of spiders found in Indiana and help identify specimens collected during the program. This event is perfect for anyone eager to learn more about these fascinating creatures. \nPlease be prepared for the weather\, as the event will go rain or shine. The one-mile mowed trail is mostly shady with some hilly terrain. We will be off the trail. Sturdy shoes and long pants are recommended. Bring a good headlamp or other source of light as well. Your Forest Bathing Guide facilitates this experience through a series of sensory-based invitations.  These simple invitations promote connection to self\, others\, and natural spaces. There’s no experience necessary—just bring your curiosity and a willingness to be present in the moment. \nWhether you’re looking to unwind after a busy day\, spend time outdoors\, or simply enjoy a quiet walk with others\, this hike is a wonderful way to relax\, recharge\, and connect with the natural world. \nWe look forward to exploring with you! \n  \nWhat to Bring: Long pants and sturdy shoes are recommended. We encourage you to bring your own water bottle as there is no potable water at this location. \nWeather Policy: Rain or shine.
